สวัสดีครับ
สองคำที่อาจารย์จะกล่าวถึงใน blog ครั้งนี้ น่าจะเป็นที่คุ้นเคยสำหรับผู้อ่านทุก ๆ ท่านครับ อย่างไรก็ตาม
ท่านทราบหลักการใช้ especially และ specially ครบทั้งหมดแล้วหรือยัง
จะมีอะไรบ้างนั้น เราไปดูพร้อม ๆ กันครับ
คำว่า especially กับ specially มีความหมายโดยทั่วไปเหมือนกัน คือ “เป็นพิเศษ” หรือ “โดยเฉพาะ” ครับ:
1. ปกติแล้ว เราสามารถใช้ especially และ specially แทนกันได้ โดยให้ความหมายที่เหมือนกันครับ เช่น:
– The rain was especially heavy.
– The rain was specially heavy.
2. เรามักใช้ especially ในกรณีที่ต้องการสื่อว่า “เหนือกว่าสิ่งอื่นใด” ครับ เช่น:
– I like to sleep in, especially during the weekends.
– The orchard has many types of fruit, especially cherries.
ในการใช้กับ subject (ประธาน) ของประโยค คำว่า especially จะตามหลัง subject เสมอครับ เช่น:
– Science is interesting. Physics, especially, is the most intriguing.
– Science is interesting. Especially physics is the most intriguing.
3. ตามธรรมดา เราใช้คำว่า especially ก่อน preposition (คำบุพบท) และ conjunction (คำเชื่อม) ครับ เช่น:
– The place is always busy, especially on Fridays. (on เป็น preposition)
– I like silence, especially when I am reading. (when เป็น subordinating conjunction)
4. เราสามารถใช้ specially คู่กับ past participle (v.3) ในการสื่อว่า “เพื่อวัตถุประสงค์เฉพาะเจาะจง” ครับ เช่น:
– These foods are specially cooked and eaten during this celebration.
– The paintings were commissioned specially for this gallery.
5. สำหรับรูปแบบ adjective (คำคุณศัพท์) ของทั้งสองคำนี้ (especial และ special) เราจะใช้ special แทบทุกครั้งครับ เช่น:
– They provided special care for the elderly. (แบบนี้พบได้บ่อย)
– They provided especial care for the elderly. (แบบนี้ก็ถูกเหมือนกัน แต่แทบไม่มีใครใช้เลย)
